01.
What does a freight forwarder or cargo agent do?

A freight forwarder is in charge of offering international logistics services to its clients, always looking for the best option according to the budget, time, and needs of each client.

Managing and coordinating logistics operations and the services that they entail is a crucial part of the work of a freight forwarder. In essence, it is to be the intermediary between the transport companies and the exporters and importers.

As freight forwarders, it is important to have the logistical capacity to carry out the transfer of merchandise, so freight forwarders have to know in-depth the laws, regulations, and necessary documentation.

02.
What benefits are obtained by hiring a freight forwarder?

The range of benefits of hiring a freight forwarder is wide, but we can concentrate on 5 advantages:

  • Strategic planning: It is crucial to have a broad vision of the international logistics landscape. A forwarder can offer a complete advisory service by keeping abreast of the latest developments in foreign trade.

  • Complete documentation: A forwarder has greater familiarity with the documents necessary for the shipment of merchandise. The client can have access to all these digital files, such as invoices, packing list, BL, expenses, impediments, permits, etc. with the security of having them with the correct necessary specifications.

  • Best rates: Finding the best appropriate route for each client implies having the best rates in the market, for this, it is necessary to thoroughly understand the nature of the goods shipped. The forwarder is responsible for evaluating punctuality, shipping cost, traffic time, or level of security for their customers.

  • Personalized service: A cargo agent adapts to the budgets and times presented by the client, taking into account the possibilities of each company.

  • Reaction to an unforeseen event: Logistics operators know how to respond to any delay or problem. They are the representatives of your company before the shipping company or the carrier. Solving problems at the moment can save your company from the risk of losing investment.
01.
Can I get credit with your company?

02.
How to quote an air service?

The calculation of air freight can be made according to the gross weight of the shipment, or by its volume.

  • Gross Weight: If the calculation is made by gross weight, the gross weight must be rounded to the nearest kilo or half a kilo. For example, if the weight of the shipment is between 10.1 kg and 10.4 Kg, the freight will be calculated based on 10.5 Kg, if the weight is between 10.6 Kg and 10.9 Kg, it will be calculated based on 11.0 Kg.

  • Weight Volume For very bulky shipments, a maximum ratio has been established between the weight and volume of a shipment. The factor used is 6,000 cubic centimeters per kilo. If the shipment exceeds this maximum, then the calculation of the freight must be made according to its volume. The formula is length x width x height of the shipment in centimeters divided by the factor of 6,000 cm3, the result is the volume weight.
03.
How to quote a maritime service?

Depending on the origin and destination of the cargo, whether it is a full container or groupage, whether it is dangerous goods or oversized cargo... the casuistry is very varied and therefore the concepts that we can find are also very varied.

  • The FCL (Full Container Load): Refers to maritime transport in a full container. When we hire this service, the freight forwarder will use the entire container for a single client.

  • LCL (Less than Container Load): It is the term of English origin to refer to maritime groupage. It is the transportation method for loads that by themselves are insufficient to complete a 20' container so that the container space is shared between different clients. Normally (although it depends on different conditions), up to 12 m3 it is preferable, in terms of price, to opt for groupage. For loads of more than 12 m3, a 20' container will surely be cheaper.
